Congratulations Yogesh Sawant! Proud member of The Westin Mumbai Garden City family!

Yogesh Sawant - IT Person of the Year 
Already selected as the regional project champion with Starwood to implement Corporate Domain Migration for South Asia for 13 properties, Yogesh Sawant – IT Senior Manager at The Westin Mumbai Garden City has the Hotelier Awards India jury’s vote for making him the number one IT Champion across India.  He has received the award of IT Person of the Year - 2014 from Hotelier India.

Since January 2012 Yogesh Sawant administers and monitors the daily IT Procedures in the hotel. He is responsible for the designing and implementation of Preventive Maintenance for all IT hardware & Software. He manages his team very efficiently by assigning their jobs and training them on all needed theoretical and practical procedures, troubleshooting and support within corporate standards. He diligently manages and works closely with the supplier for any software/hardware conflicts. Yogesh frequently develops and adapts new ideas that bring IT services to a higher management and come up with plans to advance its operations.

Yogesh Sawant job role over a period has been changed from a technical professional to a business enabler. His management and skills have not been restricted to computers, applications and internet but have been put to right utility by involving in decision making, budgeting, cost controlling, business analysis towards IT revenue, awareness of IT updates among colleagues, planning and executing business contingency, actively participating in all the hotel audits including GEI, security, finance, Starwood global IT audit and peer review etc. Understanding the need of being tech savvy, Yogesh ensures to train the IT team as well as other departments.

Yogesh Sawant says, “Winning a national level award has motivated me even more and it is a testament to the commitment of my work and team. Getting appreciated by the whole hospitality world in India has spurred me to continue to discover more innovative ways to enhance guest experiences, green technology and cost savings.”

The Westin Mumbai Garden City is proud to announce that it has received four TripAdvisor® 2014 Certificate of Excellence Award. The accolade, which honors hospitality excellence, is given only to establishments that consistently achieve outstanding traveler reviews on TripAdvisor, and is extended to qualifying businesses worldwide.
Establishments awarded the Certificate of Excellence are located all over the world and represent the upper echelon of businesses listed on the website.






TripAdvisor travelers consistently commend The Westin Mumbai Garden City with the highest praise, and TripAdvisor recognized our hotel as well as our venues Seasonal Tastes, Prego and Kangan as an exceptional achievements.

When selecting Certificate of Excellence winners, TripAdvisor uses a proprietary algorithm to determine the honorees that takes into account reviews ratings.  Businesses must maintain an overall TripAdvisor bubble rating of at least four out of five, volume and recency of reviews. The Westin Mumbai Garden City is proud to share that we have been awarded the Expedia Insiders' Select™ 2013, one of the top ranked properties of Expedia. It is a moment of pride and glory to be felicitated with such a prestigious award and to be appreciated by all our beloved guests.

Expedia Insiders' Select list is an annual award, recognizing the very best hotels available in the Expedia Global marketplace, as judged by the experiences of Expedia customers. Based on more than 1 million guest reviews submitted annually, The Westin Mumbai Garden City was one of the only 650 selected winners worldwide including 200 selected winners in India. The Westin Mumbai Garden City Proud Milestones!

Another feather is added to the ever growing cap of The Westin Mumbai Garden City. We are very proud to share the great news of us achieving two new milestones.

TripAdvisor, the world's largest travel site, announced its prestigious 2013 Certificate of Excellence Award. TripAdvisor  has awarded  highly rated accommodations, restaurants and attractions with the 2013 Certificate of Excellence Award. The accolade, which honors hospitality excellence, is given only to establishments that consistently achieve outstanding traveler reviews on TripAdvisor, and is extended to qualifying businesses worldwide. Approximately 10 percent of accommodations listed on TripAdvisor receive this prestigious award.

The Westin Mumbai Garden City, is proud to receive not one but two TripAdvisor 2013 Certificate of Excellence awards. The first one being the TripAdvisor 2013 Certificate of Excellence award  for The Westin Mumbai Garden City. The accolade is given to only those establishments who consistently achieve outstanding traveler reviews on TripAdvisor. The Westin Mumbai Garden City has strived hard to get the Certificate of Excellence twice in a row.

This year The Westin Mumbai Garden City fun dining venue Prego is proud to say that they have received a TripAdvisor 2013 Certificate of Excellence award.

Winner of Westin’s Associate Enrichment Challenge


Westin as a brand follows the philosophy of Wellness. Our focus is on creating an experience through our signature products and programs such as The Heavenly Bed, Heavenly Bath, SuperFoodRx and Heavenly Spa. As a brand, our belief is that wellness is not solely delivered through our programs, it is also experienced through individual associate interaction with our guests. To enable an associate to deliver the promise of wellness, it is important for them to understand and live through the wellness experience themselves. Starwood has introduced an initiative named “Associate Enrichment Program”. It is a worldwide challenge encouraging all Westin brands to create a program which focuses on Associate Enrichment with signature programs like SuperFoodRx, WestinWorkout and Purify.
At The Westin Mumbai Garden City, the Associate Enrichment Program has been driven by our Food & Beverage Manager, Surajit Chatterjee along with support from the General Manager, Lance Ourednik and the entire The Westin Mumbai Garden City team. We initiated ‘Super Fridays’, a unique concept of rejuvenation for our associates every week. We dedicated a day for enhancement of our associates covering the three core components, eat well, move well and breathe fresh air. This program included fun and interesting activities to inspire associate well being.

Eat Well with SuperFoodRx – ‘Refuel’ our dining venue for associate showcased SuperFood breakfast, lunch and dinner. SuperFoods inspired tea/coffee breaks for associates at Refuel. Our Associate Enrichment team also conducted ‘Welcome to Work’ activities at associate entrance once a fortnight.
Move Well and Get Workout at Work – We started Move Well with RunWestin, our signature program. A group of associates from all departments got together for jogging and stretching exercise early in the morning every fortnight. The day started with a quick power breathing session to help associates build focus and concentration. Department-head meetings, discovery and departmental meetings started with meditation and stretching exercises. Additionally, yoga classes were scheduled every Friday. Also on Fridays waste bins were removed from ‘Refuel’ to encourage the practice of no waste and ‘No Smoking’ days were initiated inside the hotel premises.
Take a Breath of Fresh Air - Air humidifier and detoxification plants were placed in Heart of House (HOH) areas to ensure the air is pure and fresh. These are maintained by the Engineering and Horticulture Teams. Water–sensors were used for HOH wash-basins and bathing facilities to conserve water. Health Magazines were placed in Refuel to bring health awareness amongst associates. A sports event was organized every month for associates like Ring Football, Badminton, Kho–Kho, Carrom, Chess, Cricket and Throw Ball.
Recently, The Westin Mumbai Garden City was selected as ‘Best in Class’ for Westin’s Associate Enrichment Challenge. We took the top prize for efforts in implementing the first three modules of WestinWORKOUT, SuperFoodsRX and Purify. We won the prize of $2,500.00 USD which will be used as donation in our hotel’s name to the charity of our choice. We thank our associates for being part of this program and adopting Westin wellness brand values within themselves.

Dinner with Fred Tibbitts and Associates


Fred Tibbitts & Associates or “FTA” is a global social entrepreneurship, giving all profits to those less fortunate; and the leading global wine, spirits and related services consulting agency for National Account chain hotels and restaurants with offices at Bangkok, Thailand and Menands, New York, USA.

The Third Annual Fred Tibbitts & Associates “A Summer-Monsoon Evening in Mumbai with Very Special Friends” at The Westin Mumbai Garden City proved to be another memorable event. The reception was hosted by Phillips Foods Asia, which provided their finest Lump Crab Meat for many of Executive Chef Ajay Chopra’s marvelous canapés and hors d’ouvres.

The four-course gala dinner commenced with Fred Tibbitts welcoming the guests and asked that they consider “Service as the Highest Calling”.  Tibbitts explained that the primary purposes of the FTA dinners are to recognize hospitality excellence, provide scholarships in the names of those whom are honored and to make charitable contributions to benefit those less fortunate.

Tibbitts next asked The Venerable Acharya Gyaltsen, Executive Director, Pema Ts’al Monastic Schools at Mundgod & Nepal to take the podium to chant a Buddhist prayer in Tibetan and summarize it in English.

Following the dinner toasts, Tibbitts announced a donation of $500.00 USD from a portion of the dinner proceeds to UN-HABITAT (United Nations Human Settlements Program); and he then called to the podium The Venerable Acharya Gyaltsen, Executive Director, Pema Ts’al Monastic Schools at Mundgod & Nepal to present him with a donation of $500.00 USD from a portion of the dinner proceeds.

  • Excellence as a Humanitarian - Dr. Joan Clos, MD, Under Secretary-General and Executive Director, United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-HABITAT)
Following the Dessert Course, Tibbitts asked Lance Ourednik, General Manager, The Westin Mumbai Garden City to return to the podium to “Summon the Brigade”.  Ourednik’s summons was answered by a resplendent parade of the kitchen seniors who prepared the dinner, led by Chef De Cuisine, Amit Kumar Suri as well as the service staff led by Devendra Kushwaha, Manager, Kangan & Bars and the rest of the dinner service team. 


The dinner menu was artfully created by Executive Chef, Ajay Chopra and supervised by Chef De Cuisine Amit Kumar Suri.

Take a break!

In between meetings, seminars, conferences, one question often comes to mind, when is the break? Sitting for hours in a meeting or seminar can be tiring and all we think of is break time. A break is time when we slowly assemble our thoughts from the meeting, it is time where we refresh our mind, it is time when we stretch our legs. We at The Westin Mumbai Garden City understand that a break is a crucial time where people want to unwind and our Chef thought of making it memorable during our recent Regional Vice President (RVP) Awards event. Out of the box thinking got a green flag and breaks got innovation and new flavor.
The RVP Awards was a two day affair, where full day seminars where conducted in our banquet venues followed by an awards night. There were collection of breaks including morning and evening tea breaks. Take a sneak peek into few wonderful theme breaks designed by our Culinary and Food & Beverage teams.


Theme 1: Marshmallows and cup cake            
Am I dreaming? 6 different flavors of marshmallow, 10 different types of cup cakes and a marshmallow tree, it surely is a dream come true. The marshmallow and cup cake theme was full of varied flavors. A choice of everyone’s favorite chocolate or classic vanilla lay in front of your eyes. The ability to savor delicious marshmallows from vanilla white, strawberry pink, to orange or mango yellow, what could be a better way than to have marshmallows and cup cakes to give you an energy boost during the break.


Theme 2: Samosa       
A twist in the break with unique samosas. Our chefs have given the normal samosa a makeover with 10 different types of stuffed samosas with an array of chutneys. Enjoy irresistible samosas with a touch of masala chai to energize you between those long meetings.



Theme 3: Donna Hay               
Inspired by the books and style of Donna Hay an inspired food stylist who emphasizes more on basic ingredients and simply prepared dishes, this theme break brings the country style alive. With complete white décor and fresh glass on the floor, this theme brought the feeling of a picnic. Our chefs created a picnic spot in pre-function area.


Theme 4: Rejuvenate               
We all want a relaxing head or shoulder massage during our break and our rejuvenate theme did just that. A quick massage session and a healthy snack and juices are the perfect way to recharge yourself before a meeting resumes. Our rejuvenate theme showcased a range of healthy juices and smoothies like Wheatgrass and lemon juice to Mango berry smoothie. This theme also included hale and hearty desserts, enabling you to jump start the meeting after a rejuvenating break!


Theme 5: Ice Cream                
You scream, I scream we all scream for ice cream. Our favorite flavors like Chocolate, Strawberry, Mango and Pista where served with around 100 condiment options. Imagination got new wings with the ability to design your own toppings and create your own ice cream.                 


Theme 6: Chaat Street             
Mumbai city is famous for its street food like pani puri, dahi vada, vada pav and the list is endless. Our guests from all over Asia experienced a street food festival like never before. This theme displayed tempting street food a perfect replica of a Mumbai Street in our very own pre function area.

What a score! 1000+

Congratulations to all our fans! It is with great pleasure and joy that we announce achieving a fan base of over a 1000 on Facebook. The Westin Mumbai Garden City was launched on the 1st February 2010 and since then we have come a long way. The Westin Mumbai Garden City was awarded ‘Hotel of the Year’ in the best Luxury/Upscale Hotel category at HICSA and 1st runner up in the category of ‘Best Business Hotel for Women’ by Travel and Leisure. Our fun dining restaurant Prego was awarded ‘Best Noteworthy Newcomer’ by the Times Food Guide in 2011.The Heavenly Spa won the prestigious Pevonia Asia Spa award for ‘Best New Spa’. We have achieved a number of milestones but are always looking forward and striving for more.

Best Business Hotel for Women Travellers

We were delighted to receive accreditation when The Westin Mumbai Garden City was the 1st Runner Up in the category Best Business Hotel for Women Travellers at the first ever Travel & Leisure India’s Best Awards 2011, organized by Travel & Leisure India & South Asia. This award is a reader’s choice award and we are very proud of our achievement and recognition by our guests.
