Think Fitness Think Westin

A bright and early morning and we at The Westin Mumbai Garden City launched the Gear Lending program, yet another initiative promoting wellness. It all started with a display of the gear that we shall be providing to our guests when they think of fitness and exercise.

In order to check BMI and bloody pressure, we had representatives from Hiranandani Hospital join us for this event. Our guests were informed of the six pillars of wellness. Our inspirational and motivational chief guests of the day Mr. Naman Ojha - Cricketer Delhi Daredevils and Mr. Sangram Singh – international wrestler representing India shared their tips to fitness and the importance of wellness.

Mr Naman Ojha

Mr Sangram Singh with Mr Sushil Sharma

Young and dynamic, Mr. Naman Ojha spoke about the advantage of exercise, staying fit and encouraged our guests to take time out for working-out. Mr. Ojha’s words of wisdom motivated everyone to join us for the launch of our RunWestin 5km track at Westin Woods. The fresh morning air energized everyone’s spirits, which was proceeded by yoga - breathing exercises to relax the mind, body and soul. After the rejuvenating yoga session we had an inspirational speech from the world renowned wrestler Mr. Sangram Singh who spoke about eating well and keeping fit and healthy.

Our guests were all rejuvenated and energized to enjoy the SuperFoodsRx™ breakfast spread crafted by Executive Chef Ajay Chopra. These delicious delicacies included healing juices, smoothies, muesli, savory selection and beverages too.
Our goal is simple, we want our guests to feel good and to feel good you need to be fit and healthy, so for a hale and hearty you, we welcome you to work out here at The Westin Mumbai Garden City. We'll deliver New Balance gear to your room to help you pack light and stay fit whenever you're on the road. So of all the things you have to leave at home, fitness needn't be one of them! Step on to Stepathlon

It is said that every step counts and it takes you one step closer to your success. Step towards a goal, step towards better health and a step towards ‘Stepathlon 2012’. Stepathlon is India’s largest mass participation fitness and well-being initiative, a race around a ‘virtual world’.

Spread over 100 days, Stepathlon began on 10th September 2012. Teams will work together to boost their daily physical activity levels at work and in their free time and compete both internally and against teams from other companies. Every participant target is to cover 100 consecutive days and motivate individuals to take 10,000 steps a day, as recommended by global health authorities.

Time saving and time wasting technologies have led to a significant decline in physical activity, resulting in increasingly sedentary lifestyles. This initiative promotes teamwork and fitness via a simple, inclusive and participative format, which delivers a happier, healthier and more productive workforce.

Each participant wears a pedometer (a step counting device) for 100 days where they enter their total number of daily steps recorded by the pedometer, directly into the online portal or via a mobile application. Participants are encouraged to walk, run, play a sport, swim and even cycle to increase their daily step count. A participant can simply enter the distance taken while doing activities such as swimming and cycling. The steps of each team are converted into kilometers and plotted on Stepathlon’s map of the ‘virtual world’.

Stepathlon will motivate employees towards embracing a fitter lifestyle in an environment that’s supportive and fun. This initiative will lead to physical and mental health benefits. Physical benefits may include improved sleep and energy levels, reduced stress, weight loss, a decrease in waist circumference, and reduced blood pressure whereas mental health benefits may include increased job satisfaction, greater self-esteem, and increased levels of confidence.

Stepathlon is the brain child of Stepathlon Lifestyle Pvt. Ltd. (SLPL), a global wellness company founded by Ravi Krishnan and Shane Bilsborough. SLPL creates an ecosystem that promotes corporate health, fitness and productivity by increasing daily activity.

Come join us and take a STEP in the right direction to being a better you!

Winner of Westin’s Associate Enrichment Challenge

Westin as a brand follows the philosophy of Wellness. Our focus is on creating an experience through our signature products and programs such as The Heavenly Bed, Heavenly Bath, SuperFoodRx and Heavenly Spa. As a brand, our belief is that wellness is not solely delivered through our programs, it is also experienced through individual associate interaction with our guests. To enable an associate to deliver the promise of wellness, it is important for them to understand and live through the wellness experience themselves. Starwood has introduced an initiative named “Associate Enrichment Program”. It is a worldwide challenge encouraging all Westin brands to create a program which focuses on Associate Enrichment with signature programs like SuperFoodRx, WestinWorkout and Purify.
At The Westin Mumbai Garden City, the Associate Enrichment Program has been driven by our Food & Beverage Manager, Surajit Chatterjee along with support from the General Manager, Lance Ourednik and the entire The Westin Mumbai Garden City team. We initiated ‘Super Fridays’, a unique concept of rejuvenation for our associates every week. We dedicated a day for enhancement of our associates covering the three core components, eat well, move well and breathe fresh air. This program included fun and interesting activities to inspire associate well being.

Eat Well with SuperFoodRx – ‘Refuel’ our dining venue for associate showcased SuperFood breakfast, lunch and dinner. SuperFoods inspired tea/coffee breaks for associates at Refuel. Our Associate Enrichment team also conducted ‘Welcome to Work’ activities at associate entrance once a fortnight.
Move Well and Get Workout at Work – We started Move Well with RunWestin, our signature program. A group of associates from all departments got together for jogging and stretching exercise early in the morning every fortnight. The day started with a quick power breathing session to help associates build focus and concentration. Department-head meetings, discovery and departmental meetings started with meditation and stretching exercises. Additionally, yoga classes were scheduled every Friday. Also on Fridays waste bins were removed from ‘Refuel’ to encourage the practice of no waste and ‘No Smoking’ days were initiated inside the hotel premises.
Take a Breath of Fresh Air - Air humidifier and detoxification plants were placed in Heart of House (HOH) areas to ensure the air is pure and fresh. These are maintained by the Engineering and Horticulture Teams. Water–sensors were used for HOH wash-basins and bathing facilities to conserve water. Health Magazines were placed in Refuel to bring health awareness amongst associates. A sports event was organized every month for associates like Ring Football, Badminton, Kho–Kho, Carrom, Chess, Cricket and Throw Ball.
Recently, The Westin Mumbai Garden City was selected as ‘Best in Class’ for Westin’s Associate Enrichment Challenge. We took the top prize for efforts in implementing the first three modules of WestinWORKOUT, SuperFoodsRX and Purify. We won the prize of $2,500.00 USD which will be used as donation in our hotel’s name to the charity of our choice. We thank our associates for being part of this program and adopting Westin wellness brand values within themselves.
