Think Fitness Think Westin

A bright and early morning and we at The Westin Mumbai Garden City launched the Gear Lending program, yet another initiative promoting wellness. It all started with a display of the gear that we shall be providing to our guests when they think of fitness and exercise.

In order to check BMI and bloody pressure, we had representatives from Hiranandani Hospital join us for this event. Our guests were informed of the six pillars of wellness. Our inspirational and motivational chief guests of the day Mr. Naman Ojha - Cricketer Delhi Daredevils and Mr. Sangram Singh – international wrestler representing India shared their tips to fitness and the importance of wellness.

Mr Naman Ojha

Mr Sangram Singh with Mr Sushil Sharma

Young and dynamic, Mr. Naman Ojha spoke about the advantage of exercise, staying fit and encouraged our guests to take time out for working-out. Mr. Ojha’s words of wisdom motivated everyone to join us for the launch of our RunWestin 5km track at Westin Woods. The fresh morning air energized everyone’s spirits, which was proceeded by yoga - breathing exercises to relax the mind, body and soul. After the rejuvenating yoga session we had an inspirational speech from the world renowned wrestler Mr. Sangram Singh who spoke about eating well and keeping fit and healthy.

Our guests were all rejuvenated and energized to enjoy the SuperFoodsRx™ breakfast spread crafted by Executive Chef Ajay Chopra. These delicious delicacies included healing juices, smoothies, muesli, savory selection and beverages too.
Our goal is simple, we want our guests to feel good and to feel good you need to be fit and healthy, so for a hale and hearty you, we welcome you to work out here at The Westin Mumbai Garden City. We'll deliver New Balance gear to your room to help you pack light and stay fit whenever you're on the road. So of all the things you have to leave at home, fitness needn't be one of them! Happy Feet

Move the Nation, Lead the World, Stepathlon is spreading its mantra all over the world. The movement has raised awareness about health and the benefits of every step taken by us to improve our lifestyle. The program is about keeping ourselves healthy and spreading the joy of a better quality of life. Stepathlon is about covering a minimum of 10,000 steps in a day. The Stepathletes are crossing 10,000 steps daily. The teams are motivated and energized to make their lives healthy and enduring.

To encourage Stepathletes to cover the steps, Stepathlon organized an event ‘Step out with the Leaders’, an early morning walk at Joggers Park, Bandra, Mumbai on Saturday 13th October 2012. The senior most to junior level executives of companies participating in the Stepathlon were all present at 7.30am with their pedometres to support the initiative. The focus of the walk was to cover steps for the day and also provide an opportunity to interact with other Stepathletes. Our team from The Westin Mumbai Garden City participated with their pedometers to join the leaders.

The activity was fun as the team enjoyed meeting other people and a morning walk with a few laughs to start the day afresh. The Westin Mumbai Team is taking steps to wellness and a better life, as we say ‘a morning walk will leave you feeling energized’. Happy Feet, Happy Body, Happy You!

Rhythmic Strokes in the Resonance of Rain

Our favorite season of the year has arrived. It is the season of making paper boats, it is season of colorful umbrellas, it is the season of unstoppable rains; it is king of all seasons, Monsoon! In India, monsoon is one of the much awaited seasons, as farmers and farms are blessed with rain to bring prosperity and a new beginning, rain is the start of a journey; it is an answer to the thirst of the agricultural industry. The distribution of rain across India is varied. Over a period of time, due to global warming there has been a major change in the trend of rain.

We all love to go out during the rain and just stand there, drenched yet immersed in the moment. However after such a wonderful moment the effects begin to reflect through dull skin, frizzy hair and an exhausted body. During the rain our body temperature drops and it is at such times, we should opt for warm therapies.

Our Heavenly Spa by Westin has created a warm oil based therapy especially for this monsoon season. Spa therapy and Ayurveda Bliss, two exclusive treatments designed keeping in mind the season’s requirement will leave you feeling enliven and energized. The therapy includes massages using almond or herbal oil and warm wraps will give you a soothing feeling.  These unique treatments will furnish a nurturing and healing touch that will stay with you even if the rains don't. Experience the warmth of monsoon with Heavenly Spa and wash away the strains of summer. Come, make a fresh start!

Be prepared for monsoon season with the tips shared by our Heavenly Spa team:
  • Take special care of yourself. Stay away from bacterial and fungal infection.
  • Hair gets moist and damp during monsoon.  Wash and condition it properly. Avoid using leave-in conditioner, use serum as an alternative.
  • Wash your hands and legs with anti bacterial soap once you enter your home.
  • Apply a gel based moisturizer before you go to bed.
  • Keep your hair dry if needed use a hair dryer.
  • Many people face the problem of dandruff, if needed use a dandruff shampoo.
  • Opt for a warm spa therapy as the body gets cold in the monsoon season.

Celebrate World Environment Day

World Environment Day (WED), an initiative run by United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), is celebrated every year on 5 June. It was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972 to raise global awareness on the world environment and also to encourage people to take steps to conserve our environment. The United Nations Conference on the Human Environment took place in Stockholm from 5 to 16 June 1972.

The first World Environment Day was on 5 June 1973. World Environment Day is celebrated every year by a different city with a different theme to spread awareness about the deteriorating environment and to encourage people to take positive actions to conserve it. Different countries carry out activities like street rallies and parades, concerts, tree planting and clean-up campaigns. In many countries, World Environment Day is used to enhance political attention and action towards improving the environment.

The event has helped us understand the environmental issues at hand and enabled everyone to realize their responsibilities towards sustainable development and a better world. It is not just a day activity but an opportunity to come together and take measures for our mother earth. Every small step taken by an individual counts, even if it is walking to work, cleaning up the neighbourhood, or saying no to plastic. It is time to make green choices, take initiatives and be an ambassador of Go Green!

Every action is a step closer to a healthy environment and green economy.  Tell us about your green initiatives and help us change the world.

WHO supports YOU!

The World Health Organization (WHO) was founded in 1948 and has been celebrated religiously every year on 7th April. The annual theme varies but the fundamentals of World Health Day remain the same – a worldwide movement supporting a single health issue with global impact. This is our opportunity to give back to society, through collective action enabling the protection of people’s health and well-being.

This year WHO focus upon the ageing population and highlight the importance of individuals focusing upon their health throughout their lives. WHO supports you – will you reciprocate? Join the WHO campaign for 2012“Good health adds life to years”. For more information, log onto Facebook or review their Website.
